Meet Your Therapist,

Dr. Ehsan Adib Shabahang

I’m Ehsan, a psychotherapist based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I founded my practice AtReef Therapy with a simple goal: to create a supportive sanctuary for emotional well-being while helping you thrive and move toward the life you want.

My work blends modern, evidence-informed therapy with practical, real-world strategies you can use right away such as Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and works of Jungian therapy (analytical psychology).

I’m also an author and the creator of Self-Reflective Relationship Therapy (SRRT), a research-based approach designed to help couples rebuild trust, strengthen communication, and support lasting personal and relational growth.

Don't Let Conflict Define Your Bond & Rediscover the Spark

Many couples sense they're in a rut but can't pinpoint the cause. They often harbor grudges, lose optimism, or feel stuck in a relationship that seems doomed to either fizzle out or remain unhappy. Your relationship doesn't have to stay stuck or become a disheartening statistic.

In reality, our therapists can identify with 94% accuracy which relationships are likely to falter. This means that, alongside your therapist, you'll uncover the specific reasons your relationship is struggling. We'll collaborate with you to address these issues and help you achieve the relationship or marriage you once envisioned.

When both partners are fully invested in the therapy process, the Association of Marriage and Family Therapy reports a satisfaction rate of up to 98% for couples in counseling. We're committed to helping you be among those satisfied couples.

Your relationship is worth fighting for!

Having a strong relationship needs nurturing, just as your personal well-being. When things get complicated, you may benefit from seeing a therapist who specializes in relationship therapy to gain a fresh perspective on ways you can create a positive energy within your life and your relationship.

In 2023, I became a Certified Gottman Couples Therapist, incorporating John Gottman's groundbreaking research into my practice. This approach is backed by extensive studies involving thousands of couples and offers proven techniques to differentiate happy couples from unhappy ones in long-term relationships.

My specialty areas include Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for emotional regulation and coping with life's challenges, as well as addressing sex and relationship issues. I have a particular knack for helping couples navigate the complexities of infidelity and conflict. My approach aims to empathize with the emotional turmoil involved and guide couples toward healing and constructive decision-making.

Fees & Insurance

I understand that knowing the fees and whether I accept insurance upfront will help you save time and verify whether I’m the right fit for you.

I am an “out-of-network” provider—in other words, I do not directly accept insurance in my couples therapy practice. If you have an out-of-network plan with your insurance company and choose to use it, you may be eligible to get some reimbursement by submitting a “superbill” to your insurance company.

I have also partnered with Mentaya to help clients use their out-of-network benefits to save money on therapy. Use this tool below to see if you qualify for reimbursement for my services.

  • My goal is to help you reconnect and build a stronger, long-lasting relationship. One that makes you happy.

  • I will provide you with the tools that you need to strengthen your own relationship with yourself and your partner.

  • Learn the true cause of conflict between you and your partner – and ways that you can overcome it.

  • I promote a supportive environment that allows you to be and feel safe in communicating your emotions to your partner.
