Terms of Service

Last updated: May 14, 2026

Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") before using https://www.atreef.com (the "Website") or any services operated by AtReef Therapy PLLC ("the Practice," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms govern your access to the Website and any related services. Your use of the Website constitutes acceptance of these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Website or its services.

The Practice

AtReef Therapy PLLC is a solo private psychotherapy practice operated by Dr. Ehsan Adib Shabahang (NCC, LPC, LCMHC, LMHC), based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dr. Ehsan is licensed in Massachusetts (LMHC) and holds active licensure or telehealth registration in additional states, currently including North Carolina (LCMHC), Michigan (LPC), Texas (LPC), Florida (out-of-state telehealth, TLHT), and South Carolina (LPC). Telehealth services are provided only to clients physically located in a jurisdiction where Dr. Ehsan is authorized to practice.

Use of this Website does not establish a therapist-client relationship. A clinical relationship is formed only after the intake process is completed and informed consent is signed. Content on the Website (including videos, blog posts, books, downloadable resources, and social media materials) is for informational and educational purposes only and is not a substitute for psychotherapy, assessment, diagnosis, or crisis intervention.

If you are in a mental health emergency, please call 911, go to your nearest emergency room, or contact the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.

Eligibility

The Website is intended for individuals 18 years of age or older. By using the Website, you confirm that you are 18 or older. If you are under 18, you must use the Website with parental or legal guardian supervision. Clinical services are provided only to clients ages 18 and older.

Telehealth and Digital Services

Clinical services are provided primarily by telehealth using HIPAA-compliant platforms, including SimplePractice Telehealth. By participating in telehealth or other digital services, you acknowledge that:

  • Technology can fail or be disrupted.

  • You are responsible for participating from a private and secure location.

  • You may be asked to confirm your current physical location at the start of each session for emergency purposes.

  • Telehealth is not appropriate for every situation, and a higher level of care may be recommended when clinically indicated.

The Practice may also use HIPAA-compliant documentation tools, including SimplePractice AI and Heidi Health, to support accurate documentation. Use of these tools requires separate written consent and is described on the Use of AI-Assisted Tools page.

Fees, Payment, and Cancellations

Current session fees, the late cancellation policy, the inactive file policy, and additional billing details are described in the Practice Policies and Informed Consent documents provided at intake. By scheduling or receiving services, you agree to pay the applicable fees at the time of service, unless otherwise arranged in writing.

  • The Practice may keep a credit card on file, processed securely through Stripe via SimplePractice, and charge it for scheduled sessions, late cancellation or no-show fees, and outstanding balances.

  • Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice may be charged a late cancellation fee. Missed appointments may be treated as late cancellations.

  • Insurance typically does not cover late cancellation or no-show fees.

Fees may change with reasonable advance notice. For self-pay or uninsured clients, a Good Faith Estimate is available under the federal No Surprises Act; see the No Surprises Act page for details.

Insurance and Out-of-Network Reimbursement

A limited number of insurance-based individual therapy slots may be available, currently through Alma and Headway. Insurance billing is handled in accordance with those platforms' procedures and the client's plan. Coverage and reimbursement are determined by the insurer, and the Practice does not guarantee reimbursement. Many plans do not allow more than one psychotherapy session on the same day.

For private-pay clients, the Practice may offer support with out-of-network claim submission through Mentaya. Mentaya charges a service fee per claim. Reimbursement is determined by your insurer.

Website Content and Intellectual Property

All content on the Website, including video, text, logos, graphics, downloads, blog articles, and educational materials, is owned by or licensed to AtReef Therapy PLLC. This content may not be copied, reproduced, redistributed, or used to create derivative works without express written permission. Educational content, books, blog articles, social media posts, and videos are for informational purposes only and do not create a therapist-client relationship.

User Conduct

If you submit information through the Website, please provide accurate information and safeguard any login credentials. You agree not to use the Website to:

  • Violate any local, state, federal, or international law

  • Impersonate another person

  • Harass, threaten, or harm others

  • Upload malicious code, viruses, or content that interferes with Website functionality

Limitation of Liability

Website content is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. While reasonable effort is made to maintain Website quality and uptime, the Practice does not guarantee that the Website or third-party platforms will be error-free or always available. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Practice's liability is limited to the amount you paid for services in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100 if no purchase was made.

This Website may include links to third-party websites. The Practice is not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or terms of use of those websites. You are encouraged to review their policies before engaging with them.

Cookies and Tracking

The Website uses cookies and standard tracking technologies to support functionality, analyze site traffic, and improve performance. By using the Website, you agree to the use of cookies as described in the Privacy Policy.

Termination

The Practice may suspend or terminate Website access at any time if these Terms are violated or if continuation poses a risk to safety, confidentiality, or ethical care. Clinical termination of services is described separately in the Practice Policies and Informed Consent documents provided at intake.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes related to the Website or these Terms shall be brought in the appropriate courts of Massachusetts. If any provision is found invalid, the remainder of these Terms remain in effect.

Updates

These Terms may be updated periodically. When changes are made, the "Last updated" date will be revised. Continued use of the Website or services after such changes means you accept the revised Terms.
